Police: Joliet Central student threatened to 'shoot up' school on Twitter

JOLIET (STMW) - A 15-year-old Joliet Central student was arrested Wednesday morning after threatening to shoot up the southwest suburban high school on Twitter.

Joliet police learned Tuesday night there was a post on Twitter circulating about a school shooting that would take place Wednesday, Chief Brian Benton said.

The post said, “I’m going to shoot up the school for getting roasted today,” Benton said.

The FBI and Joliet police identified 15-year-old student who wrote the tweet and arrested him as he went to school Wednesday morning, Benton said. He was charged with disorderly conduct and taken to the River Valley Juvenile Detention Center.

The student’s locker and the surrounding area were searched and nothing was found.

Benton said there was no viable threat and there was no danger to the school or the students.
