Man fatally shoots himself while boarding CTA bus in Englewood

SUN-TIMES MEDIA WIRE - A man fatally shot himself while boarding a CTA bus Sunday night in the Englewood neighborhood on the South Side.

Cheo Branch-Ibura, 35, was boarding the bus at 8:53 p.m. in the 200 block of West 63rd Street when he fired a handgun, striking himself in the head, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Numerous people were on the bus when the shooting happened, police said. No injuries were reported.

Branch-Ibura, who lived in the South Side Burnside neighborhood, was dead at the scene, authorities said. An autopsy found he died of a gunshot wound to the face and his death was ruled a suicide.

Area South detectives are investigating.
