Police: Man hails cabs downtown, robs drivers in South Shore

SUN-TIMES MEDIA WIRE - Two cab drivers were robbed Wednesday after picking up a man downtown and driving him to the South Shore neighborhood on the South Side.

In both instances, the suspect hailed a cab downtown and asked to be driven to the 7800 block of South South Shore Drive, where he proceeded to demand money from the drivers, according to a community alert from Chicago Police. The first robbery happened at 9:37 a.m., while the second occurred at 6:30 p.m.

The suspect was described as a 5-foot-7 to 6-foot black man between 20 and 40 years old and weighing 140 to 160 pounds, police said. He had a medium to dark brown complexion and wore his hair in an Afro.
