Police: Man shot dead in East Hyde Park

A man was fatally shot Friday afternoon in the East Hyde Park neighborhood on the South Side.

At 2:50 p.m., the 33-year-old man was walking in a park in the 5400 block of South Cornell when someone wearing a mask walked up from behind and opened fire before running away northbound, according to Chicago Police.

The man was found unresponsive by officers and pronounced at the scene, police said. The Cook County medical examiner’s office did not immediately provide details on the fatality.

A police source said the man is a documented gang member.
