Police: Pair pointed knife, gun at Oak Brook mall security

OAK BROOK (STMW) - Police in west suburban Oak Brook are looking two people who pointed weapons at security guards after being caught shoplifting at Oakbrook Center mall Thursday morning.

Officers were called to the Neiman Marcus store at Oakbrook Center at 11:07 a.m. for reports of a retail theft in progress, according to a statement from Oak Brook police.

A woman entered the store, selected a purse and jacket, then tried to leave without paying, police said. When store security confronted her, she dropped the stolen items and pulled a large fixed-blade knife from her purse before running away.

She got into a gray Nissan in the parking lot, police said. As store security approached the vehicle, the male driver pointed a pistol at them before driving off eastbound on 22nd Street.

“This is a very isolated incident,” Oak Brook Police Chief James Kruger said in the statement. “Oakbrook Center is an extremely safe place to shop, however we will be stepping up patrols in the area to deter any similar situation from happening again, and eliminating any concerns the community may have.”

Anyone with information about the incident should call police at (630) 368-8700 or crimetips@oak-brook.org.
