Police: Man dies on I-57 on Far South Side following shooting

A man died Monday night on I-57 in the Morgan Park neighborhood after being shot on the Far South Side , police said.

The 37-year-old man was driving a silver van in the 11000 block of South Hamlet near the I-57 on-ramp about 8:35 p.m. when someone fired shots, according to Chicago Police.

The van continued north onto I-57 before coming to a stop near 108th Street, police said. The man was pronounced dead at the scene with a gunshot wound to the head, but the Cook County medical examiner’s office could not immediately confirm the death.

The far right lanes of northbound I-57 were temporarily closed between 111th and 109th streets as police investigated the shooting, according to Illinois State Police.

Including Monday night’s homicide, police have investigated 19 shootings on Chicago highways in 2016.
