Man charged with firing gun in Lincoln Park

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) - A 27-year-old man has been charged with firing a gun in Lincoln Park Sunday afternoon, resulting in a SWAT team swarming the North Side neighborhood.

Peter Vitale turned himself in Tuesday and was charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm and reckless discharge of a firearm, both felonies, according to Chicago Police.

Officers responded to a call of shots fired and a possible shooter on a roof in the 2700 block of North Pine Grove at 3:15 p.m., police said.

A SWAT team responded “out of an abundance of caution,” but no shooter was found, police said.

In a Facebook post Sunday night, 44th Ward Ald. Tom Tunney said, “Police are reviewing video, and believe a male and female were testing a gun on a roof. Police share that this is an isolated incident, and no injuries have been reported.”

Authorities cleared the area at 4:25 p.m., police said.

Vitale, who lives on the 2700 block of North Pine Grove, was scheduled to appear in bond court Wednesday.
