Police: Woodstock man snatches cigarettes, $20 bill from senior

SUN-TIMES MEDIA WIRE - A 25-year-old man stole a pack of cigarettes and a $20 bill from a senior citizen on the street last month in northwest suburban Woodstock.

Around 11:20 a.m. Oct. 24, officers responded to a robbery in the 1500 block of Clay Street, according to Woodstock police.

The senior man was walking in the area of Olson Park, 1101 Clay St., when Michael V. Samuelson approached him asking for a cigarette, police said. When the victim took out his pack of cigarettes, also containing a $20 bill, Samuelson took it out of his hand and ran away.

The man tried to chase after Samuelson but was concerned for his safety and asked a nearby person for help, police said. The passerby saw Samuelson go inside of a home in the 1200 block of Tappan Street.

Samuelson was arrested for robbery, police said. His bail was set at $15,000 and he remains in the custody at the McHenry County Jail.
