Pregnant woman shot in Sauk Village was not intended target

CHICAGO (STMW) - A pregnant woman was shot Wednesday night in south suburban Sauk Village, but police said she was not the intended victim.

About 5:30 p.m., a male walked up to a home in the 22400 block of Strassburg Avenue and knocked on the door, Sauk Village Police Chief Robert Kowalski said.

The homeowner opened the door and the suspect asked for someone who doesn’t live in the home, Kowalski said. Two other males then walked up behind him.

The homeowner was suspicious of the three and began to close the door, Kowalski said. One of the males then fired a shot from a handgun, which went through a wall and struck a woman inside the home.

The 32-year-old woman, who is pregnant, was shot in the torso and was taken to a nearby hospital, then transferred to Stroger Hospital, where her condition stabilized, Kowalski said.

The three suspects ran away after firing the shot, Kowalski said.

Sauk Village police are investigating.
