Report: Police closing in on Tyshawn Lee's killer

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) - Police are reportedly closing in on whoever killed 9-year-old Tyshawn Lee, whose death was a result of a two year war between rival street gangs.

The violence spiked on October 13 with the shooting death of a gang member who was riding home with his mother. He died of a gunshot wound to his stomach and his mother was also hurt.

To retaliate, a source told The Daily Beast that the victim's gang decided to pick an easy target, which ended up being the 9-year-old son of a rival gang member.

The source also told the publication that they knew the boy visited his grandmother who lived in their turf. So, they knew they wouldn't be challenged.

On November 2, they carried out their execution. Police have interviewed one man they believe is connected with the killing. They say it’s only a matter of time before they put all the pieces together and make an arrest.

The reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in Tyshawn’s murder is now more than $50K.
