Suburban Chicago cop arrested in California for allegedly stabbing teen

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) - An Oak Forest police officer was vacationing in California over the weekend when he allegedly got into a brawl and stabbed a teenager.

Arthur Roman, 28, of Tinley Park, along with his brother and sister-in-law, Martin and Jessica Roman of Lake Forest, California, have all been charged with assault with a deadly weapon and battery.

A spokesperson for the Oak Forest Police Department says they were notified of the attack on Sunday, just hours after the incident.

Huntington Beach Police say the three suspects were in a vehicle outside a 24-hour fitness gym when they got into a verbal argument with two others walking down the street. The two groups started to fight and police say a 17-year-old boy was stabbed.

The victim told a Los Angeles reporter that he felt the attack may have been racially motivated, but police are not investigating this as a hate crime.

After the stabbing, police say Roman and the two others fled the scene. They were found a short time later and arrested, charged and have since been released on bond.

It is not clear which one of them stabbed the teenager.

An Oak Forest Deputy Police Chief says they have launched their own internal investigation into Roman and would not comment on how long he's been on the force.

Oak Forest police told FOX 32 that Roman will be placed on administrative leave when he comes back.

The victim in this case was taken to a hospital, treated and released.
