$1M bond for duo charged with Lyons home invasion, chase

LYONS, Ill. (STMW) - Bond was set at $1 million Wednesday for two men charged with breaking into a southwest suburban Lyons home Monday night before leading police on a chase all the way to Chicago’s South Side.

Eduardo Ortiz, 51, of Chicago; and Calvin Kennedy, 35, of Grand Island, Nebraska, each felony counts of armed home invasion, according to Lyons village spokesman Ray Hanania.

The pair had guns when they entered the home in the 4500 block of Pulaski in Lyons about 7:15 p.m., Hanania said.

A person who was upstairs when they broke in dialed 9-1-1, and police arrived as the men were leaving, Hanania said.

Officers gave chase for an hour along the Stevenson and Dan Ryan expressways before Ortiz and Kennedy were arrested near 65th Street and Wentworth, Hanania said. No one was hurt.

Residents of the home later identified the two men, who didn’t know the family and had planned on robbing them, police allege.

A judge on Wednesday ordered both men held on $1 million bonds, according to the Cook County sheriff’s office. They are due back in court in Bridgeview on March 22.
