UIC nurse charged with aggravated battery to a child

A University of Illinois Hospital nurse was ordered held in lieu of $300,000 bail Thursday on aggravated battery charges for allegedly attacking an 8-month-old boy who was in her care, the Chicago Sun-Times is reporting.

Crispiniana Domingo was seen slapping the boy’s head three times on May 14 by a customer service representative hired by the hospital, according to a police report.

The woman came forward the next day when the boy’s mother told hospital officials that her child wasn’t moving his left arm and an X-ray revealed a fracture, authorities said.

Before the baby was slapped, Domingo was seen lowering a metal rail above the baby’s bed, Assistant Cook County State’s Attorney Lorraine Scaduto said.

It slipped and crashed and the baby could be heard crying, Scaduto said.

The boy came to the hospital earlier that month and it was determined he could not have hurt himself, Scaduto said.

An MRI was later performed. It showed that the boy suffered two bilateral hemotomas, which were consistent with being hit in the back of the head, Scaduto said.

Domingo, 51, was arrested earlier this week.

She allegedly admitted to “patting” the back of the victim’s head to calm him down because he was crying.

Domingo, of Bolingbrook, is a mother of three, her attorney told Judge Laura Sullivan.
