CHICAGO (Fox 32 News) - Chicago police are looking at video from what appears to be a terrible prank that endangered lives on the Dan Ryan Expressway.
The shocking video has already been shared more than 9,000 times on Facebook. On it, you see innocent drivers moving along the Dan Ryan near 87th Street Friday night while objects, including a garbage can, are hurled at them from the CTA platform above.
We showed the video to drivers at 87th and the Dan Ryan.
“And I know there’s been a few cases before where people have gotten injured, even killed with things being thrown from overpasses so they need to really think twice before doing things like that," said Myrtlean Anderson, commuter.
“I hope they catch them. I hope they catch them. You know, that’s extremely dangerous," said Commander Hendricks, commuter.
The prank has also drawn negative comments online, more than 2,000 of them, like this one which reads, "These two honor students could of caused a serious accident and gotten someone killed."
The CTA issued a statement saying, "This kind of behavior is absolutely unacceptable and CTA will pursue charges."
Hearing what these young men did has got people thinking about changing their own driving habits, fearful of what could happen.
“My Initial thoughts were never to drive in the fourth lane anymore, just pay attention because of that. I can’t believe people actually sit up here and throw something, like what is your thought process?" said Jimeka Burt, commuter.
Others are simply praying these young men will change their ways.
“I don’t know, I just hope that whatever it is, that they do better," said Quinton Qualls, commuter.
Along with the video on Facebook, the CTA confirms they have surveillance video as well, all that to help Chicago police with their investigation.
