Woman charged with fatal hit-in-run in Skokie

- A woman is facing a felony charge after a pedestrian was killed in hit-and-run Monday night in north suburban Skokie.

Authorities responded to the crash about 6:30 p.m. and found 58-year-old Maggie French, of Skokie, on the ground near Kilpatrick and Keeney, according to Skokie police and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office. She was awake and responsive when police arrived.

Paramedics took French to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, where she was initially listed in critical condition, police said. She was pronounced dead later Monday night, according to the medical examiner’s office said. An autopsy Tuesday ruled she died of injuries suffered in the crash and her death was ruled an accident.

The driver, Luz Maria Aguilar-Soto, 28, was arrested for leaving the scene of an accident involving death or injury, police said.

A judge Wednesday set bond at $50,000. Aguilar-Soto, of Skokie, posted bond and was released from Cook County Jail.
