CHICAGO (SUN TIMES MEDIA WIRE) - A South Side woman was ordered held on $2 million bail Tuesday for allegedly breaking into a Gold Coast couple’s home and attacking the husband.
Cook County prosecutors said 20-year-old Chiquita White did not know the husband and wife, but White’s attorney said the parties being strangers was “in dispute,” the Chicago Sun-Times is reporting.
The man and woman were sleeping in their seventh-floor unit in the 500 block of North Michigan on Sunday when the man awoke to a sharp pain to his cheek, Assistant State’s Attorney Lorraine Scaduto said.
The man, 55, then saw White standing over him, preparing to strike him again, Scaduto said.
He grabbed her wrist and started struggling with her, Scaduto said.
White had a three-inch folding knife, Scaduto said.
Meanwhile, the man’s 53-year-old wife tried calling 911 but she was too “unnerved and distraught” to do so, Scaduto said.
The man was able to move White into the hallway, and his wife ran to wave down a security guard, Scaduto said. The man held White down until police came and arrested her.
The man suffered an abrasion to his right cheek and a scratch to his chest, authorities said.
White’s purse, umbrella and jacket were still in the condo, Scaduto said.
She got into the condo through an unlocked door, the police report said.
White, of the 9600 block of South Jeffery, was charged with aggravated battery, burglary and home invasion.
