Domestic fight leads Berkeley police to uncover $1M in psychedelic mushrooms

A domestic fight in Berkeley led police to uncover a pile full of ‘shrooms, which they called a large scale psychedelic mushroom processing operation.

The 37-year-old woman and her 35-year-old boyfriend were arrested on narcotics related charges, according to Berkeley Police Sgt. Andrew Frankel.

Police were called out Saturday about 10 p.m. to the couple’s home in the 1700 block of Alcatraz Avenue. The pair initially refused to open the door, Frankel said. But eventually they came out and when officers went in, they found 677 pounds of psilocybin mushrooms “in various stages of cultivation.”

Frankel estimated the bust was worth $1 million in street value, along with $3,000 in cash.
