Grandmother uses lottery winnings to buy a 21st-century phone

- A 95-year-old woman in Connecticut said she had big plans for spending $30,000 she won in a scratch-off lottery game earlier this month. For example, it was finally time to get a "decent" phone.

Why? "I don’t want to be one of these people that has my thumb stuck on my phone all the time but I want to be able to look up the weather and be able to send a photo."

Ursula McCafferty, a retired postwoman, said she enjoyed playing scratch-off games because "my cat doesn’t give me much attention," according to the Connecticut Lottery. She told ABC News she'd buy $30 worth of tickets every Friday.

Once she won big, McCafferty was stunned. Taking her daughter along, she headed from her home in North Canaan to lottery headquarters in Rocky Hill to claim her prize in the "3X the Cash" game.
