Mom charged with lying about daughter's cancer battle

An Oklahoma mother was arraigned Friday on three felony counts in connection with lying about her daughter’s battle with cancer, the Enid News & Eagle reported.

Jessica Lynn Good is accused of obtaining money by false pretenses as well as child abuse. The pastor of a local church told police Good roused his suspicion after she had been soliciting funds from the church and some of its members over a period of about three years, while the young girl, identified only as “KG” appeared healthy.

Pastor Alan Seibel said the mother told his church that the 4-year-old had cancer, was undergoing stem cell research and had been afflicted with seizures. The girl, however, did not act like a child who was undergoing harsh medical procedures like the chemotherapy often used to fight cancer, nor was the girl losing hair—a main symptom of the procedure.

Good collected as much as $5,000 from the church family. The News & Eagle also reported that Good collected a combined $12,000 in cash and goods from a charity golf tournament held for the girl.
