Mississippi woman catches massive, record-breaking gator

- In only her third time alligator hunting, a Mississippi woman caught the state's longest gator on record from public waters.

Tiffany Wienke told WLBT that she was out on a 20-foot boat with five other gator hunters when they spotted the massive animal. She said that they managed to hook the gator, which proceeded to put up an intense, two-hour struggle.

"He ran us - literally crashed us into some trees, and bank-to-bank," Wienke said. "He was pulling this boat full of people like it was nothing."

Eventually, they were able to secure the gator, kill it and lift it into their boat. Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks Alligator Program Coordinator Ricky Flynt determined that the 686-pound gator measured 13 feet, 7 7/8 inches, one-eighth more than the previous record.

"We're completely content with the fact that this will probably be the biggest alligator that we'll ever catch," Wienke said. "It's not gonna keep us from going back. But we're completely happy with this."
