911 Calls Go Unanswered While Operator Ordered Lunch: Sheriff

FT. LAUDERDALE, FL- A medical emergency leads to panic after several bystanders are unable to reach operators by calling 911.

A patient was in the middle of an eye exam, when they suffered a seizure and fell to the ground.

Employees began calling 911 but there was no answer, for what felt like several minutes,

After an internal internal investigation by the Broward County Sheriff's office, the reason for the lack of an answer has been revealed.

The operator responsible was on a personal call, ordering a pizza for lunch.

The call lasted for eight minutes according to investigators.

The Sheriff's office says the call taker admitted her mistake and was issued a written reprimand.

Fortunately, the patient in need came to, avoiding further injury.
