Police: 5-year-old girl kidnapped, sexually assaulted in DeKalb County

A 5-year-old girl was kidnapped and sexually assaulted Friday afternoon in the Stone Mountain area of DeKalb County, according to police. Investigators say they discovered the crime after getting a call about a child wandering alone at the Value Mall on Memorial Drive.

The young girl told police she had been picked up by a man at the Clifton Glen Apartments on Hambrick Road, then dropped off near the mall. Officers took the girl to the hospital to be checked out, and doctors discovered she had been sexually assaulted.

While that was happening, police received a report of a kidnapping from a woman at the apartment complex. The victim's 8-year-old brother told his mother what had happened, and she called police. Detectives canvassed the area and came up with a description of the kidnapper.

Dado Durmic told FOX 5 he was working near the Value Mall and called police after finding the barefoot girl walking in the parking lot.

"I asked her what was wrong and she was screaming, 'I'm looking for mommy, my mommy,'" Durmic said.

He added he hopes police track down the child predator.

"It's really shocking that something like this could happen..." Durmic said. "That is like the scum of the earth for anybody who would do anything to a child. That's horrible."

Police said they are looking for a light-skinned black man in his early 20's with long hair worn in a ponytail and a long beard. He was said to be driving an early 2000's model gray Hyundai hatchback.
