White man with dreadlocks accused of cultural appropriation

SAN FRANCISCO (FOX 32 NEWS) - Authorities at San Francisco State University are investigating an incident that showed a black woman confronting a white man on campus for having dreadlocks.

The interaction, which shows the man and woman arguing about his hair, was captured on video and posted to YouTube on Monday.

"You're saying that I can't have a hair style because of your culture? Why?" the man asked in the video.

"Because it's my culture," she responded.

The pair then begins to argue about where dreadlocks came from with the man asking. "Are you Egyptian? Nah, man, you're not."

"Wait, where's Egypt?" the woman asked. "Tell me"

The man tried to walk away up the stars but the woman stopped him, still asking where Egypt was. She grabbed his arm, attempting to stop him from leaving. The pair traded more words before the woman let him go.

"Stop touching me right now. I don't need your disrespect," the man said as he walked away.

The woman then asks the person with the camera why they are filming.

"For everyone's safety," the person filming appears to say.

San Francisco State University responded to the incident in a statement on Tuesday.

"San Francisco State University promotes the rights of the campus community to engage in free speech, but does not condone behavior that impedes the safety or well-being of others," the statement read.  "We are taking the matter seriously and will promptly and thoroughly investigate this incident through applicable University channels, including our campus student conduct procedures."
