Kenwood woman killed in Eisenhower crash

Authorities have identified a 32-year-old Kenwood woman killed in an Eisenhower Expressway (I-290) crash that left five other people seriously injured and shut down outbound lanes for five hours during the Friday morning rush.

Akia J. Wallace, of the 4800 block of South Lake Park, died in the single-vehicle crash that happened about 4:30 a.m. near the Kostner Avenue exit, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office and Illinois State Police.

A Chevrolet Venture van was speeding in the far left lane when the driver lost control, swerving to the right and rolling over multiple times before coming to rest on its roof, state police said.

Wallace was pronounced dead at the scene. Two men — including the driver — were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, and three women were taken to Stroger Hospital, fire officials said. All were listed in serious-to-critical condition.

State police could not immediately provide an update on the investigation Saturday night.

Outbound traffic was snarled for miles with all lanes closed until 9:30 a.m. as crews cleared the scene.
