Korean vet surprised with new 'Freedom Bell' after theft

- The Korean War veteran who had his patriotic display stolen has some good news. The community has rallied around Bobby Dearman, replacing his beloved “Freedom Bell.”

The bell had been on the 83-year-old vet’s Coweta County property for 30 years. The thing he hated as much as the thieves who stole his patriotic display was the fact he no longer had a place to fly his American flag in his yard. Dearman believed it to be more than a theft of property, but also an attack on patriotism.

This week, a group of residents who heard the news bought another “Freedom Bell” for Dearman and quickly installed it on a new, bigger and deeper post.

The retired postal policeman said while his dog Frisky helped to keep an eye on the yard, he now plans to install cameras.

The neighbors who helped renewed Dearman’s sense of patriotism declined an interview with FOX 5 Atlanta saying they didn't do for publicity. The also brought Dearman a new flag which is even bigger than his older one.
