CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) - Some of the most prestigious kitchens around Chicago are getting a little sharper.
That's because two local knife makers are changing the way chefs are slicing and dicing.
Inside the small art studio of Ravenswood Handforged, skills aren’t the only thing being sharpened.
Brendan McDermott is a chef instructor at Kendall College and Chris Mayor is an expert bladesmith but the two make up a team of knife makers whose work is finding itself in some of the most prestigious kitchens around Chicago.
The process is meticulous. All the blades are forged by hand, hammered out and grounded.
Each individual knife can sit in their hands somewhere between 12 to 18 hours. It’s a science both figuratively and literally and people are taking notice.
Their knives are finding homes in both professional kitchens and personal kitchens around Chicago.
Whether it’s traditional kitchen cutlery or custom orders, the hard-work forged in their small studio is slowly changing the way chefs are slicing and dicing.
Because life can be dull if you let it be. Sometimes we all need to be sharpened.
