CHICAGO (STMW) - Twelve students were taken to hospitals from a South Side elementary school Tuesday morning after an irritant was released in the cafeteria.

Some students at Beasley Elementary School at 5255 S. State St. were playing with a canister of an irritant, possibly pepper spray, when it was released about 10 a.m., according to Fire Media Affairs Director Larry Langford.

Twelve students were taken to Comer Children’s Hospital in excellent condition, Langford said.
