11 displaced in 3-building fire in Greater Grand Crossing

CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) - Two firefighters were injured and 11 people were displaced early Monday when a fire spread to three buildings in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood on the South Side.

Firefighters responded at 1:08 a.m. to the blaze that started in an abandoned building and spread to two neighboring homes in the 7600 block of South Drexel, according to Chicago Police.

Two firefighters suffered minor injuries battling the blaze, according to Chicago Fire Media Affairs. No other injuries were reported.

Fire officials said 11 people were displaced because the buildings were rendered uninhabitable.

As of 5:30 a.m., the fire department said the blaze had been extinguished. The cause remains under investigation by the Office of Fire Investigation.
