Man killed in 4-vehicle Kennedy crash Friday identified

A driver that was killed in a four-vehicle crash during Friday’s morning rush on the Kennedy Expressway on the Northwest Side has been identified as a Huntley man.

A purple Dodge Caravan was driving southbound in the far right lane of the Kennedy at Harlem at 7:37 a.m. when it struck the back of a white Ford pickup at “a significant rate of speed,” according to Illinois State Police.

The collision caused the pickup to hit the rear of a blue Chevrolet Cruze, which in turn hit the rear of a purple Ford Explorer, police said. The pickup, the Cruze and the Explorer were all stopped at the time of the crash, and the Caravan did not brake or slow down before the collision.

The driver of the Caravan, identified as 22-year-old Griffin Krewer, was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where he was pronounced dead at 8:38 a.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Krewer, who lived in the 9800 block of Chetwood Drive in Huntley, died of multiple blunt force injuries in the crash and his death was ruled an accident, according to the medical examiner’s office.

The 42-year-old man who was driving the Cruze was taken to Presence Resurrection Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries, police said.
