Lombard garage fire possibly caused by lightning strike

LOMBARD — At approximately 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 21, the Lombard Fire Department responded to a report of a garage fire on the 200 block of West Harding Road.

According to Battalion Chief Marty Coomes, “Arriving Firefighters encountered a detached two car garage well involved with fire. The garage was adjacent to a single family home. The fire was also starting to burn the east side of the home.” The fire was controlled in approximately five minutes. No injuries were reported to civilians or
firefighters.

The fire was called in by a neighbor. The residents were not home at the time the fire was reported. The estimated damage to the home, garage and garage contents is approximately $85,000. The fire cause and origin is under investigation. Neighbors in the area reported a large lightning strike and flash in the area just before the fire was
discovered.
