17-year-old developmentally disabled girl found safe

UPDATE: Alishianna A. Harris, 17 years old, who was reported missing on October 4, 2016 from Evanston, was located in good health Monday night in Midlothian, Illinois. Harris was located by the Midlothian Police Department after being contacted by a concerned citizen. The Evanston Police Department would like to thank the public and local media for their assistance in this matter.

FOX 32 / SUN-TIMES - Evanston police are searching for a 17-year-old girl who has been missing for nearly a week from the north suburb.

Alishianna A. Harris was last seen Tuesday afternoon after leaving her home in the 1600 block of Thelin Court, according to a statement from Evanston police.

"She has run away in the past, but typically they have heard from her. They have had sporadic contact that they haven't had this time," said Commander Joe Dugan.

Residents on the block where Harris lives say the neighborhood is a safe one, and they don't suspect foul play.

"It's a very nice block, hardly ever any trouble, and I would more than likely feel that if something happened to her, she just wandered off on her own. I'm praying and hoping that's what the case is anyway," said neighbor Norman Stewart.

"She is familiar with the Chicago 'L' train and other public transportation, although she doesn't have money, she doesn't have credit cards, or cellphone or anything like that. So we reached out previously to other departments in Chicago and the suburbs to put it out there for them," Dugan said.

Alishianna is described as a 5-foot-5, 210-pound black girl with black hair with honey highlights, medium complexion and a half-inch scar above her left eye, police said. She was last seen wearing a black hoodie with fur, a beige t-shirt and beige camouflage pants.

Police said Alishianna is developmentally and intellectually delayed, and functions at the level of a 6- or 7-year-old. She does not have a cellphone, money or credit cards, but knows how to use the CTA.

Anyone with information should call Evanston police at (847) 866-5000 and ask for the juvenile bureau, or text 274637 and enter EPDTIP in the message.
