SUN-TIMES MEDIA WIRE - The very first police K-9 for the Woodstock Police Department, Brinx, died peacefully Wednesday.
Brinx began his career in 2006 and worked with his handler Sgt. Arthur “Ray” Lanz in Woodstock. The pair were “one of the region’s most formidable and effective K-9 units while serving together,” according to a statement from Woodstock police.
Brinx assisted the department with drug investigations and public demonstrations, “but also by bringing smiles and joy to everyone,” police said.
Brinx retired after seven years of service on New Years’ Eve in 2013. He enjoyed life with the Lanz family until his passing at the age of 11 years and 5 months.
In 2017 it is likely that Brinx will be honored for his loyal and exemplary public service at the Northern Illinois Police K-9 Memorial, police said.
