SUN-TIMES MEDIA WIRE - A windsurfer was rescued from Lake Michigan Monday in north suburban Evanston, according to Evanston Fire Department.
At 4:30 p.m. Evanston fire officials arrived at Lee Street Beach after a windsurfer used his cellphone to call a friend to contact 911, according to fire officials.
At 5:35 p.m. the windsurfer, who was about 2 miles off the shore of Lee Street Beach near the 1600 block of Sheridan Road, was pulled from the water to safety, fire officials said. The man was not hurt.
The U.S. Coast Guard and Chicago Fire Department assisted.
