Evanston police officer hit by truck

- An Evanston police officer was injured when she was hit by a truck Saturday morning in the north suburb.

The officer, a 19-year veteran of the department, was on foot at 9:43 a.m. at the intersection of Dodge Avenue and Emerson Street to deploy the intersection’s stop signs because of a power outage, according to a statement from Evanston police. She had just dropped the stop sign at the southwest corner and was in the crosswalk heading north when she was hit by an eastbound dump truck.

The officer suffered multiple injuries and was taken to Evanston Hospital, where her condition was stabilized, police said.

The intersection was closed as the Northern Regional Major Crimes Task Force Major Crash Assistance Team investigated, but it was reopened in all directions by 12:41 p.m., according to police. The driver of the truck remained at the scene after the crash, but it was not immediately clear whether any citations would be issued as the investigation continued Saturday afternoon.
