Watching the Cubs games this weekend at a bar? It'll cost you dearly

FOX 32 NEWS - When the teams come back to Chicago, many fans without tickets will gather at Wrigley bars to watch the game, if they can afford it. That's because some places are charging a chunk of change just to get in.

Last weekend, some Wrigleyville bars were charging 20-30 dollars as a cover. But this weekend for the World Series, it’s tenfold.

Some bars are charging 200-250 dollars per person and that includes food and drink, but not always a seat! Old Crow Smokehouse is offering a party pack for 225 dollars.

“It goes from 5:30 to the middle of the 9th inning and you get in right away, so last week we were running 2-3 hours wait time to get in,” said Steve Honacki with Old Crow Smokehouse.

You can find lots of World Series party packages on Hastickets.com. Most of them range from 200-250 dollars per person and some offer tables for 500-1,000 dollars.

There are establishments that are just charging a cover upwards of 100 dollars a person.

Still, some places like Johnny O’Hagan’s are promising no cover and no party package.

“I personally sat down with the owner and he agreed with me that there is no reason at all that someone should have to pay a high price to come and see a piece of history ,” said Sean Seibert, general manager of O’Hagan’s.

He warns patrons to get there early as he expects some to show up at 10am.

Fans understand why the bars are offering the packages and say fans will spend the money.

Most bars in Wrigleyville are opening around 10-11am Friday, Saturday and Sunday this weekend.
