Cold-related delays continue on multiple Metra lines

- Trains on several Metra lines were running behind schedule as frigid temperatures caused mechanical problems and signal issues that continued into the Thursday evening rush.

But signal issues that forced closure of the south concourse at Union Station were quickly resolved and commuters can once again use the concourse, though trains will be operating with delays.

Outbound trains on the Southwest Service, Heritage Corridor and BNSF lines were delayed 15-30 minutes due to problems at the station.

Inbound train No. 132 on the Electric Line was running ab out 6 minutes behind schedule because of signal problems, according to a service alert from Metra. The train was originally scheduled to arrive at Union Station at 5:40 p.m.

Inbound Rock Island Train 142 was running 15 minutes behind schedule

Delays ranging of about 11 minutes were also reported on the BNSF and UP North lines.
