Operations to resume at Lake County Government Center after threat

CROWN POINT, Ind. (Sun-Times Media Wire) - Normal operations will resume Wednesday morning after a threat closed the Lake County Government Center in northwest Indiana.

About noon Tuesday, the Lake County prosecutor’s office received a telephone call during which someone made a threat concerning the government center at 2293 Main St. in Crown Point, according to the Lake County sheriff’s office.

Sheriff John Buncich ordered all civilians to evacuate the government center as a precautionary measure while sheriff’s police completed a search of the buildings and grounds.

Some civilian staff at the Lake County Jail were sent home as well, but essential personnel remained in the jail, sheriff’s spokesman Mark Back said.

The sheriff’s department declared that nothing was found at 2:48 p.m., according to the sheriff’s office. Normal operations will resume Wednesday morning.

The sheriff’s Criminal Investigations Division is investigating the threat, according to the sheriff’s office.
