NAPERVILLE (STMW) - No one was injured after a man barricaded himself inside his Naperville home for eight hours Thursday, prompting a lockdown at a nearby west suburban elementary school.
About 11:10 a.m., a family member called police for a well-being check at the home in the 1900 block of Phaeton Court, according to Naperville Police Cmdr. Jason Arres.
But when officers attempted to have the man exit the home to speak with investigators, he wouldn’t leave, police said. Negotiations then commenced for several hours.
Scott Elementary School at 500 Warwick Dr. was placed on soft lockdown because of the barricade situation, and a shelter-in-place was issued for residents in the area, Arres said.
Shortly after 7:30 p.m., the man, who is thought to be in his 20s, exited the home and the situation was “peacefully resolved,” police said. Neither the man, nor any police officers, was injured, but he was taken to the hospital for evaluation.
It was not immediately known whether the man will be charged in connection with the incident.
