5 hospitalized after falling ill in Lincoln Square nursing home

CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) - Five people were taken to area hospitals Saturday afternoon after falling ill in a Lincoln Square nursing home on the West Side, according to fire officials.

At 3:42 p.m., fire officials responded to a call of a person falling ill at Continental Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, 5336 N. Western Ave., said Chicago Fire Department Commander Frank Velez.

Five residents, between the ages of 40 and 50, were taken by ambulance with no apparent injuries, Velez said. Three of them were taken to Swedish Covenant Hospital and two others to Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston.

The Illinois Department of Public Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are investigating the incident, Velez said.
