Man rescued from burning car in I-80 crash

Two Cook County Sheriff's Deputies rescued a man from a burning car after it crashed on Interstate 80 in the south suburbs early Wednesday.

About 2 a.m., the car was heading eastbound on I-80 near the Interstate 57 interchange in unincorporated Bremen Township when it smashed into a guard rail, according to Illinois State Police.

The car caught fire in a matter of minutes and trapped a teen inside. That's when Officer William Hoefler and his partner Officer Viktor Yatsyk jumped in to save the teen.

He was taken to a hospital for evaluation.

The officers who saved the teen say they were just doing their job.

Officer Yatsyk is fresh out of the police academy.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
