Five officers injured in Laquan McDonald protests Tuesday night

CHICAGO (STMW) - Five Chicago Police officers were injured Tuesday night during the Laquan McDonald protests.

The five officers were taken to hospitals, where they were treated for minor injuries and then released, according to police.

Between 300 and 400 people took to the streets last night to protest the fatal shooting of 17-year-old Laquan McDonald, marching from University Village to the Loop. A pushing match between protestors and Chicago Police happened on South Michigan Avenue and East Balbo Avenue and three protestors were arrested.

One of the five injured officers may have torn his bicep, police said. Additional details of the officers’ injuries were not immediately available.

WATCH: Protests erupted in Chicago Tuesday night in the wake of first-degree murder charges being brought against a police officer who shot and killed a 17-year-old black man in October 2014.
