ARLINGTON HEIGHTS (Sun-Times Media Wire) - An extra-alarm fire at a vacant warehouse in northwest suburban Arlington Heights has been extinguished.
Crews responded to a report of smoke coming from the building at Arthur Avenue and Davis Street about 6 a.m. Thursday, according to Arlington Heights Deputy Fire Chief Pete Ahlman.
Firefighters were at the building within 5 minutes and the blaze was already through the roof, Ahlman said. Within a couple minutes, the entire roof collapsed and the blaze was upgraded to a second-alarm.
The fire was brought under control by about 9 a.m., Ahlman said. No civilians or firefighters were injured.
Crews remained at the scene as of 11:45 a.m., he said. The building is still not safe to go inside.
Ahlman said the building is a warehouse that has been vacant for “some time.” The cause of the fire has not yet determined.
