CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) - Chicago residents are demanding that the entire police board step down.
“We need new representation; you have not been just by our communities, and by our people. And with that we ask, we beg and we plead for you all to have dignity and grace and step down,” said protester Monica James.
The crowd erupted in cheers and repeated chants of "step down."
Many of the protesters have been in this same location before, waiting to see what the police board was going to do with Officer Dante Servin, who was acquitted at trial of shooting Rekia Boyd.
However, the superintendent has since recommended the board fire Servin, and that was still very much on the minds of some people, including the police board president.
“I want to assure the public that the process by which the police board reaches its ultimate decision with respect to the charges against Dante Servin, like in any case will be transparent and will be public,” said Police Board President Lori Lightfoot.
“First this board should move tonight to fire Dante Servin, the killer of Rekia Boyd. This board should also move to fire every officer associated with the murder of Laquan McDonald and the subsequent cover-up! As well as the officers involved in the killing and cover up or Ronald Johnson,” said protester Jaytan Travis.
