2016 Pride Parade plans fewer floats, more security

CHICAGO (STMW) - The 2016 Chicago Gay Pride Parade will feature 150 entries, 50 fewer than in previous years.

In the parade’s annual application to the city, organizers reduced the number of entries — which includes marching groups and vehicles, as well as floats — from 200 to 150, according to Richard Pfeiffer, the parade’s coordinator.

Organizers also plan to add more security along the parade route, Pfeiffer added. The route itself will remain the same, winding through the Buena Park and Boystown neighborhoods before ending at Diversey and Sheridan.

The 2015 parade, which drew 1 million people last June, required organizers to hire 90 off-duty Chicago Police officers to provide additional security. Chicago Police also warned they would issue $1,000 tickets for open alcohol containers along the parade route.
