CHICAGO (STMW) - A car reportedly belonging to former Bears linebacker Lance Briggs crashed into a building early Wednesday in the Northwest Side Portage Park neighborhood.
At 5:40 a.m., police responded to a call of a vehicle that had crashed into a building in the 4800 block of West Irving Park Road, but the car and driver were both gone by the time officers arrived at the scene, police said.
No injuries were reported in the accident, and police are investigating.
The website TMZ Sports published a photo of a white Porsche against the building, and claimed it belonged to the former All-Pro linebacker.
Police would not confirm that Briggs’ vehicle was involved.
Briggs took to Twitter to say it wasn’t him. “Feel free to report the facts anytime! I Ubered home, but why report the truth, when a lie is more appealing, right?”
In 2007, Briggs was sentenced to a year of court supervision and 120 hours of community service after crashing a Lamborghini. He pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of a property damage accident and failure to report an accident, prosecutors said at the time.
Briggs was driving his Lamborghini Murcielago at a high rate of speed about 3 a.m. Aug. 27 on the Edens Expressway when it hit a concrete embankment, spun out and ended up on the other side of the guard rail in a grassy median, police said at the time.
No one was injured in the crash, and Briggs left the scene and returned to his home in Northbrook, police and prosecutors said.
