92-year-old man fatally struck by Metra train in Bartlett

A 92-year-old man was fatally struck by a Metra train Monday morning on the Milwaukee District/West Line in northwest suburban Bartlett.

Inbound train No. 2212 struck a person about 6:40 a.m. at the Bartlett station in the 200 block of East Railroad Avenue, according to Metra spokesman Tom Miller. The train was scheduled to depart Roselle at 6:54 a.m. and didn’t have any passengers yet.

Michael Thomas Warwik, 92, was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:02 a.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. He lived less than a block from the train station in Bartlett.

An autopsy found he died of multiple blunt force injuries from jumping in front of the train, and his death was ruled a suicide, according to the medical examiner’s office.
