JOLIET (SUN TIMES MEDIA WIRE) - An armed, suicidal man surrendered after a two-hour standoff with Joliet police Thursday morning in the southwest suburb.
Someone called 911 to report a despondent man with a weapon on the top floor of the parking deck at Harrah’s Hotel and Casino at 151 N. Joliet St. at 8:49 a.m., according to Joliet police.
Officers arrived and found a man sitting in a gray 2013 Ford Escape with a scoped rifle pointed at his head, police said.
The department’s crisis negotiator and critical incident response team headed to the scene, police said.
The man surrendered peacefully about 11 a.m., police said. He was taken to Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet for an evaluation.
A scoped rifle and ammunition were recover from his SUV, police said.
Police will consult with the Will County state’s attorney’s office to determine if charges will be filed.
