CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) - A mother and baby are recovering after a surprise delivery on the side of the road.
The family released a photograph of Miller Rambert who was born Monday morning as his father was trying to drive his mother to the hospital.
Miller was born at 1:58 a.m. near the intersection of West 43rd and South Dearborn streets in the Grand Boulevard neighborhood. Miller weighed 6 lbs, 11 oz.
Chicago Police say they received a 911 call from the family as they were trying to get to UIC Medical Center. But the baby was not going to wait and paramedics helped Tenisha Rambert deliver her baby in the front seat of the car while Marshall Rambert was driving.
"You know, I'm trying to go get there as fast as I can, but safely," Marshall Rambert said. "I guess my son couldn't wait. At least 10 minutes within our ride, he was there at 1:55 in the morning."
Tenisha and Miller were taken to Mercy Hospital and Medical Center in good condition.
Marshall says Tenisha watches medical programs on TV and recently saw an episode where the mother delivered the baby in a car and she said, 'That doesn't happen in real life.' He says now it's happened to her.
