MAYWOOD (Sun-Times Media Wire) - A lockdown at Loyola University Medical Center in west suburban Maywood that was promoted by a suspicious item Tuesday morning has been lifted.

About 8:50 a.m., a suspicious package was discovered in a parking garage stairwell at Loyola’s Maywood campus, according to a statement from the hospital.

The campus was put on temporary lockdown; all entrances were blocked; and employees, students and patients were asked to shelter in place, according to the hospital’s statement.

The Cook County Sheriff’s Police Bomb Squad investigated the package and determined it was not a threat, according to the hospital. A complete search of the campus was conducted and the lockdown was lifted.
