Chicago seniors swelter in apartment building with no air conditioning

CHICAGO (Fox 32 News) - Away from Chicago's beautiful lakefront Sunday, elderly residents in an apartment building in Homan Square were sweltering in their apartments.

Stella Seargeant had her fan working overtime inside the Roosevelt Towers Senior Living Apartments on Roosevelt Road.

"It's like I am in a box, and there's no air in this box," she said.

Management had apparently decided not to turn the air conditioning on until June 1.

Residents were using the downstairs lobby as a de facto cooling center, though it was hardly any cooler there. Resident Ruby Milan joked that the heat was enough to do her in.

"Put the air on, because I ain't ready to go," she said.

Fox 32 News reached out to East Lake Management and did not get a response.
